Mangaluru, Nov 15: Children's Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Holy Redeemer English Medium School on November 14. The day began with a Holy Mass at 9 am, held in the church and attended by Catholic students and teachers.
A special programme followed in the school auditorium to mark the occasion. The chief guest, Fr Clifford Rodrigues, a member of the Carmelite community from Asha Deepa, Madanthyar, was escorted by Rev Walter D'Mello, correspondent, Fr Clifford Pinto, headmaster, and Ramesh, PTA vice-president.
The celebration began with a prayerful song, filling the atmosphere with a divine essence. Teacher Renita Lasrado extended a warm welcome to the gathering, and a floral tribute was offered to the portrait of Chacha Nehru by the chief guest, school pupil leader Vaishnavi, and assistant school pupil leader Alston D'Silva.
In his address, Fr Rodrigues shared a meaningful message on how to be a good child at home and school. "To be a good child means to show respect, kindness, and discipline in all environments," he said. In his presidential address, D'Mello encouraged students to recognise and nurture their unique talents, urging them to take every opportunity to grow.
The celebration was further enlivened by the teachers, who performed an energetic dance routine and sang blessing songs for the children. The students were delighted by these surprise performances, which filled the room with excitement.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of class-wise lucky games and squad-wise individual competitions that had been organized earlier in the week in honour of Children's Day. The school also honoured students who excelled in taluk-level sports and cultural events and went on to represent the school at the district-level.
In a gesture of support, the PTA committee members sponsored gifts for all the children. Teacher Blendin Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks, and teacher Lavina compered the entire programme.
The celebrations did not end at the school. In the afternoon, high school students visited Daya Special School in Beltangady, where they spent time with the children there and continued the Children’s Day celebrations. For the school’s pre-primary, primary, and higher primary students, children's movies were screened, adding to the festive mood.
The day concluded with refreshments served to all the children, leaving them with happy memories of a meaningful and joyous celebration.
