Thiruvananthapuram, May 27: Swamy Ganeshananda alias Sreehari, aged 53, who is known as ‘Rapist godman’ in the recent days, may have to live the rest of his life without his normal penis as the doctors find it difficult to re-attach it.
The sexual organ was cut by a 23-year-old woman who resisted self-styled godman’s rape attempt on May 19.
The doctors at the government medical college hospital here had sewn his organ immediately after he was brought there. But the organ now is showing a tendency to gangrene. The multiple levels of cuts were allegedly caused by a blunt instrument.
In case of fear of gangrene, the penis has to be removed. Normal urination will not be possible in such case. He will have to do it in a sitting position, said a surgeon at the hospital.
Doctors say that if it was a single cut using sharp instrument they could have shortened and re-attached the penis by leveling it through microscopic surgery. In such scenario a full erection would also have been possible.
But the doctors, attached to general surgery, had sewn in the penis immediately after he was admitted to avoid death through blood loss. They had also consulted the plastic surgery department who gave negative opinion about the outcome.
The injured godman is now under the observation of the urology department. Doctors have said that the penis should show revascularisation. However, they are also pessimistic as there is severe swelling.
The doctors have put a tube through the sewn penis shaft for urination. The penis has suffered 90 per cent cut and was dangling. So the rescuers did not have to bring it in an icebox like in other cases of bobbitisation.
The godman is perfectly healthy otherwise without any lifestyle diseases, hospital sources said.
The police have not registered any case against the woman as they believe she did the act to thwart rape attempt.
The woman victim continues to be in the shelter home.
The godman has not given any statements against the woman.
