Bangalore, Feb 28: Sania Mirza has got the potential to break into the top ten in the world, says woman tennis ace Venus Williams.
The American world number eight also said that she will miss the Hyderabadi at the $600,000 Bangalore Open starting on March 3.
Sania had pulled out of the Open, saying she was not in the right frame of mind to do justice to herself and her abilities.
"Definitely, I believe, a local player always adds to the excitement of the spectators," Venus said.
"I recently played Sania in Australia and it is clear that she is talented and has got huge potential", Venus said, adding the Indian had the potential to break into the top ten.
On Bangalore Open, Venus said, "my expectation is always to be the best and I work too hard and have too much belief to expect anything less".
Sister Serena would be her toughest opponent at Bangalore, said Venus.
"Serena knows my game better than anyone - we have practiced together since we started playing - and I believe she has more weapons than anyone on Tour".
"I am very much excited about my visit to India. Indian culture has always fascinated me. I have a long plane ride to India from the US where I will have plenty of time to read and finalise my plans," said Venus, who is making her first trip to India with Serena.
Venus said when Bangalore Open was elevated to the Tier II level, there was an opportunity for her to play.
"I have been doing some research and not 100 per cent certain what I will be able to see while I'm in Bangalore", she said.
"There are many options and not much time and having said that, I'm really excited of my first trip to India which has always fascinated me. I am sure Serena and I will make some plans together. As of now, it seems our father would also be joining us at Bangalore !" she said.
