UAE : Feb. 02: Wreckless drivers should say goodbye to driving at high speed as an amendment would be made soon to federal law no.21 of 1995 as per which extra fines will be slapped on over speeding cars.
Dhs200 fine is currently levied for over speeding motorists but as soon as the new amendment is made traffic fines will vary as per the speed of the violating vehicle disclosed Lieutenant Colonel Ali Saeed Al Matrooshi, Head of the Traffic Department of Ajman Police in an exclusive interview to Gulf Today.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Al Matrooshi the amendment came under the directives of the UAE Minister of Interior His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has given directives of forming a traffic committee to offer a comprehensive study of the traffic rules and make necessary adjustments on traffic rules.
"The amendment will soon be implemented all over the country as over speeding caused many accidents leading to death in majority of the cases. Traffic rules violators will be heavily penalised either by seizing their cars or on the black point system for violators. With the amendment coming into effect soon the violation value for over speeding motorist will be based on his speed driven, the higher the speed violation, the higher fine paid.
In some cases where the violation is repeated several times we will temporarily seize the driving license and the car of the violating motorist and sometime the drivers will be asked to repeat the driving test again."
"Over speeding not only risks the life of motorist but also others crossing the roads where many of them paid their lives as a result of excessive speed that makes it impossible for motorist to have full control over the car and avoid killing or injuring others or themselves.
We hope the new law that will be enforced soon will ensure that motorist abide by the stipulated speed limit and that they should never exceed the speed limit."
