The South Kanara branch of the IMA marked the Doctors Day this year by felicitating three senior doctors apart from holding a special talk on common psychiatric disorders. Eminent physician Dr K R Shetty was the chief guest on the occasion.
 
Dr Supriya Hegde (Rao Aroor), clinical psychiatrist at KMC delivered a detailed talk on Common Psychiatric Disorders based on her experience with a variety of patients from different professions and of various age groups.

Senior psychiatrist Dr Ravish Thunga moderated the talk. He pointed out that almost 30-40 % cases in the OPD were common psychiatric ailments that could be treated just with effective counseling. Dr Supriya spoke in detail about the anxiety and panic disorders being found commonly these days.


IMA President Dr Divakar Rao and Secretary Dr Rajesh Ballal paid rich tributes to Bharat ratna Dr BC Roy and senior Medical Doctors of the City.
 
Three eminent doctors of Mangalore, Family physician Dr. H S Jeeth, Senior Professor of Medicine Dr M Ramesh Pai and Eminent Ophthalmologist Dr R N Sujeer were felicitated on the occasion.
 
Dr Hoige Somasundaram Jeeth was born on the September 21, 1945 in a well-known business family of Mangalore. He completed his schooling and college from St Aloysius High School and College. He did his MBBS from Mysore Medical College in 1970. After doing 18 months of senior housemanship in Medicine, Peadiatrics and Obstetrics in Wenlock and KMC hospitals he established the Jeeth Clinic on August 15, 1973 at Jeppu and started his General Practice. He was the president of the Family Physicians association of Mangalore for the year 2003-2004.He is married to Amitha since 1977 and is blessed with 3 children.
 
Dr M Ramesh Pai born on the 2nd of May, 1946 in Mangalore graduated from the St Aloysius college and passed with his MBBS degree from KMC in the year 1971. He did his post graduation from the same college in the department of medicine. He worked in the same department for 20 years till 1996 after which he was a free lancer for 6 years till he joined AJ institute of Medical Sciences where he is the Professor and Head of Department of Medicine since January 2002.Hes married to Dr Muktha Pai a professor of Pathology at KMC Mangalore and blessed with two children.
 
Dr. RN Sujir was born in 1945 February and did his schooling at St Aloysius College and High School. He did his MBBS and then post graduation in Ophthalmology from the KEM hospital in Bombay. He joined Fr Mullers Hospital in 1971 as consultant and later in May 1979 he joined KMC and served there till 2005 when he retired as the Head of Department. His subjects of interest include Sterilization Techniques for Ocular Surgeries, Modified Surgical Techniques for Large angle squints. His wife late Dr Githa Sujir was a radiologist and sonologist. They are blessed with two daughters.
