Mangalore, Jun 26: An open rapid chess tournament was organized at the Karnataka Bank Employees Union auditorium at Bejai here on Sunday June 24 by Subramanya Sabha Centenary Celebration Committee in association with South Kanara District Chess Association.
Gahan M G of Canara High School, Dongerkery won the championship while the junior open category title was bagged by Venessa Tressa D’Souza of St Agnes Higher Primary School.
Vivek K M of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Panambur won the best under-7 trophy and the under-9 category prize was bagged by Pangala Gopalkrishna Nayak.
Chrisil Ann Pais of Ladyhill Higher Primary won the best under-11 player award while the under-13 category award was bagged by Shiva Shankar Somayaji of Sharada Vidyalaya.
As many as 90 players from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district participated in the Swiss format tournament of five rounds.
