Madrid, June 6 (IANS): Spanish team Sevilla's coach Unai Emery ended speculation about his future at the club by extending his contract for another season.
Emery's initial contract was until June, 2016. His move ended rumours of him leaving Sevilla to coach in England. Sevilla finished fifth in the La Liga with a record 76 points, while also winning the Europa League for the second year in succession, reports Xinhua.
Emery' s two seasons in Sevilla have so far yielded two fifth place finishes and two Europa League.
This season's Europa League title also means that Sevilla have qualified for next season' s Champions League. The win also meant that Emery had become a coach in demand with clubs such as Real Madrid and West Ham United rumoured to be interested in contracting him.
All that speculation was ended by the communique from Sevilla which confirmed the decision taken by the 44-year-old who was also successful during his spells with Lorca, Almeria and Valencia, who he led to three third place finishes.
