Bengaluru, Apr 14 (DHNS): BJP MLA and former minister Anand Singh, who is presently in central jail, following his arrest by the Special Investigative Team (SIT) of the Lokayukta is understood to have resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly.
Sources close to Singh said the 49-year-old legislator from Vijayanagar in Ballari district, submitted his resignation letter to the jail authorities (DIG-prisons) with a request that it be despatched to Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa.
Singh was recently arrested by the SIT team led by IGP Charan Reddy on charges of illegally transporting iron ore. This was the second time the MLA was being arrested in connection with illegal mining. The CBI had arrested Singh in November 2013 on charges of illegally exporting iron ore from Bellikere port.
Sources said Singh has not cited any reasons in his resignation letter. At the same time in another letter to party President Pralhad Joshi, Singh stated that due to the cases against him and frequent court hearings, he was not able to focus on his constituency and do justice to the people.
Speaker Thimmappa was in Udupi on a private visit. Officials in the Speaker’s office said they had not received any resignation letter.
