Mangaluru, Apr 10: District committee members of Campus Front of India (CFI) held a protest on Friday April 10, in front of the Mangalore One school whose school van driver allegedly sexually assaulted a three-and-a-half-year-old girl, an LKG student of the school, recently.
The child was sexually assualted on March 13, allegedly by Madhukar Shetty (35), the driver of an Omni van belonging to Mangalore One school. He was arrested soon after.
Ashik Machar, member of district committee of CFI demanded closure of the school by June 1 and threatened to intensify the protests if the school was not closed by then.
He alleged that the Mangalore One school at Thokkottu, Chembugudde has been irresponsible in the case.
“Though the sexual assault is established, the school is trying to close the case on flimsy grounds. Several police cases have been registered against CFI in Bengaluru and Beltangady for having protested against sexual harassment on children. However, CFI will continue the protests until justice is done," he said.
CFI's demanded that the school be booked under POCSO Act before June 1. It also demanded cancellation of school recognition and ban on use of private vehicles in the school premises. CFI threatened that it would forcibly close the school if the three demands were not met.
Campus Front India district president Irshad Bajpe, district chief secretary Fayaz Manjanady, Ullal zonal president Irshad and others participated in the protests.
KSRP additional contingent and Ullal police maintained strict security.
