Kundapur, Apr 10: Ramesh Bayari, the main accused in the sensational kidnap and murder of RTI activist Vasudeva Agida that took place in early 2013, has been granted conditional bail.
Vasudeva Adiga, who was also a Congress member, was kidnapped on the night of January 7, 2013, and his body was found five days later at Kadur in Chikkamagaluru district on January 12.
Apart from Bayari, case was registered against seven persons from Bengaluru for kidnapping and murdering Adiga. The other accused were Subramanya Udupa, Umesh, Naveen, Mohan Kumar, K S Raghavendra, Ravichandra, and Vijayasarathi. They were arrested and released on bail later.
However, though the seven got bail, the prime accused Bayari's bail pleas were thrice rejected by the courts. He had appealed for bail in Udupi district and sessions court, the high court in Bengaluru, and even the Supreme Court, and all three turned down his appeals.
However, he was given the opportunity to submit the bail plea again after the questioning of the main witnesses in the case. As the questioning of the main witnesses is over, his lawyers appealed for bail once more.
The judge of additional district and sessions court R P Patil examined Bayari's plea and granted him conditional bail on Thursday April 9.
