Puttur, Apr 7: A person who was troubling a minor girl for the past three months by phoning her with indecent language has been arrested by Puttur rural police.  

The person arrested is Ashiq alias Ubeid alias Navin aged 19 years.

As per details, Ashiq was phoning a minor girl studying in the tenth standard who is a resident of Ariyadka. He was using an indecent language over the phone. He claimed that his name was Navin from Purusharakatte.

The girl, who got tired of these calls, stopped using her mobile phone at all. Ashiq, who went to the house of the girl last Thursday, assaulted the girl and ran away with her mobile phone.

A complaint was lodged soon after this incident at Puttur rural police station under Pocso act. The police who started the investigation, managed to arrest Sadiq on Sunday.

Now Sadiq has been remanded to judicial custody.

Fake name

The complaint was lodged against Sadiq in the name of Navin. After the arrest was done also police were under the impression that he was Navin. All throughout three months when he disturbed the minor girl over the phone, he claimed that he was Navin. But the investigations by police after the arrest have revealed that he was not Navin, but Sadiq alias Ubeid. He was purposely doing it to project to the girl that he was from her community. He also spoke her language fluently.
