Mangaluru, Mar 27: Karnataka governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala on Friday March 27 said that regional works should be translated to Hindi, and opined that strengthening Hindi as the national language will promote and boost national unity.
He was the addressing the Joint Regional and Official Language Conference of South and West Regions, organized by the department of official languages under the home ministry, at Hotel Ocean Pearl here.
Governor Vajubhai Vala said, "Everyone should have an aim in life. Those who work for others exhibit human tendencies and those who work for self project animal dispositions. How we live is important. Our knowledge should be useful for others.
"South India is a Ganga of knowledge from where eminent thinkers and scholars have emerged. These great scholars and saints have written great wroks in various languages like Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam etc and this knowledge should be utilized properly. Their works should be translated into the single language of Hindi so that the entire India can read them. Every independent nation should have a national flag and a national emblem, animal and bird, and there should also be one single language. The Indian Constitution accepts Hindi as the national language. We are not against any language, but we should show the same enthusiasm in learning Hindi as we do in learning English," he said.
"Languages may be different but the nation is one. Nation gets strengthened because of its thought, and thought is strengthened due to knowledge. Language unites knowledge from every part of the country and in India, it is Hindi that unites all knowledge. Let us strengthen Hindi, then even nation will be strengthened. There should not be fights over language," he added.
"Every state has its own language, and it should be promoted along with the national language. More than 75 percent of the Indian population can understand Hindi. We should not reject any language and love them all. This will help in boosting the unity of the nation. Hindi can unite and organize the entire country.
"Law was written in English and so we learnt English. In future if laws are written in Hindi, the future generation will learn Hindi in a better way," he added.
Snehalatha Kumari of Rajbhasha Vibhag who presided over the programme said, "This convention is to promote the use of Hindi language. Any language gets importance when peope use it more and more in their everyday lives. Hindi is an easy and effective language and popular among the people. It is not only a medium of expression but is also connected with the tradition and culture of our people, because of which we are famous in the world. Hindi language is ideologically and culturally connected with people."
She also informed that the cash award for Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar has been increased to support officials languages.
On the occasion, awards were given to various individuals for their contribution in popularising Hindi.
Poonam Junaid and Malai Chatterjee of Rajbhasha Vibhag, Vijaykumar of Corportation Bank and others were present.
