Mangaluru: Illegal sand mining near Gurupura river; accused fined

Mangaluru, Jan 26: Mohammad Iqbal has been fined with Rs 10000 for illegal mining and sand lifting through dredging sand machine, at the Gurupura River (also known as Phalguni River) on Sunday January 25.

On receiving the information, K S Nagendrappa, in-charge Deputy Director of Mines and Geology conducted the raid near Kelagina kere, Addur village, Mangaluru taluk. As soon as the officer arrived, the miscreants fled from the area.

As there were no additional officer, they could not arrest anyone during the raid.

Mohammad Iqbal who was present at the area, has accepted the mistake and has paid the fine to the department. He has also been cautioned not to continue the illegal mining, if caught again he will be booked under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code.
