Udupi, Nov 14: Rangabhoomi (R) Udupi, on the occasion of 60th anniversary, to organize 'Rangabhasha' theater camp for college students, at Milagres College, Kallianpura, From November 16 to 18.
Pradeep Chandra Kutpady, general secretary Rangabhoomi, addressing media in the press meet held on November 14, said, “As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, Rangabhoomi (R) has planned several initiatives to promote awareness and interest in theatre among youth and children. The organization’s first step in this direction is ‘Rangabhoomi Rangashikshana,’ a theatre training and play production programme in 12 selected high schools across Udupi. This initiative has enlisted the guidance of ten senior and junior directors and involves around 300 students. The plays produced through this programme will be showcased at each school’s annual day celebrations and at a children’s theatre festival set to take place in the first week of December.”
A workshop titled ‘Rangabhoomi Rangabhasha, what is Theatre, why, and how?’ aimed at college students, has been organized. This three-day residential workshop is being conducted in collaboration with Yaksha Rangayana Karkala and Milagres College, Kallianpura. Led by Venkataramana Aithal, director Yaksha Rangayana Karkala’s director, the workshop will feature prominent theatre personalities, including Prasanna, Nagabharana, Mandya Ramesh, Sihi Kahi Chandru, K G Krishnamurthy, Shripad Bhatt, Manju Kodagu, Vineet Kumar, and Shweta H K, as resource persons. The camp will be attended by over 100 college students.
The workshop will be inaugurated by noted theatre director Prasanna, who will deliver the keynote address. Dr H S Ballal, honorary president of Rangabhoomi (R), will preside over the event, with special guests including actor and director Mandya Ramesh and head of Milagres Institutions Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves. Theater experts Shashidhar Bharighat and director Shwetharani H K will serve as key guests, principal of Milagres College Dr Vincent Alva, Yaksha Rangayana Karkala’s Venkataramana Aithal, special officer Poornima, and camp coordinator H Jayaprakash Kedlaya will also be present.
During the workshop, plays such as Mussanjeyalli Nadeda Ghatane by Abhinaya Darpana Chikkamagaluru, Iruve Purana by Kinnara Mela Tumari, Dashanana Swapna Siddhi by Bhalire Vichitram, and Aane Doctor by Odanada team will be performed.
The closing ceremony of the workshop, scheduled for November 18, at 3.30 pm, will be presided over by Dr Tallur Shivaram Shetty, president of Rangabhoomi (R) Udupi, with K G Krishnamurthy delivering the valedictory address. Chief guest N V Srikant will be present along with Dr Vincent Alva, Venkataramana Aithal, Poornima, and H Jayaprakash Kedlaya.
Vice president of Rangabhoomi Bhaskar Rao Kediyoor, co-convener Revathi and Ravidas Nayak were present in the press conference.
