Kundapur, Jan 25: “If the government and the police had woken up after the recent incidents in Gangolli and taken measures to maintain law and order, the incident of Wednesday January 21 would not have recurred. Such unpleasant incidents are recurring due to the indifference of the government and the police department,” alleged Kota Srinivasa Poojary, former minister and member of Vidhana Parishad.
He was speaking to the reporters after looking at the CCTV footage of damaged shops and other destruction by the miscreants. He pacified the victims.
“The actions of the miscreants will put terrorists to shame. The incident of setting fire to the shop and vehicles after pouring petrol on them is condemnable. The police should identify the suspects and arrest them. We have extended co-operation to the government and police department whenever there was lack of law and order causing casualties. We are co-operating with the investigation in the incident of fire in Gangolli. The police department should take suitable measures to prevent such unpleasant incidents in Gangolli in the future,” he said.
“Police should not have arrested and sent innocent people to Bellary Jail. Before registering cases against innocent people they should search for the root cause of the incident and identify the real culprits. The government should provide support to the police without protecting suspects on political considerations. If the government gives room for such incidents, the matter will be discussed in the assembly and a protest will have to be held against the government. Besides that, a movement will be necessary outside the assembly,” he warned.
Byndoor constituency BJP chief secretary Sadananda Uppinakudru, former taluk panchayat member Surendra Kharvi, Gangolli BJP local committee president Ravindra Patel, Yuva Morcha president Dileep Kharvi, Manti Suresh Kharvi, former gram panchayat member Raghavendra Devadiga, shop owner Bhaskar Vittal Shenoy, and G Vittala B Shenoy were present.
