Mangalore, Jun 2: The Mangalore Police and the Mangalore City Corporation will set up two separate outposts at the controversial construction site on the K S Rao Road here where a builder is constructing a multiplex by clearing a hill.
At a series of meeting it was decided that the outposts had to be set up to monitor the day-to-day progress of construction of the retaining wall on the hill. Engineers of the corporation and the police will ensure that the contractors reinforce the walls with boulders and cement in the gaps between the retaining wall and the cleared portion of the hill.
Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada B Dayananda said the Deputy Commissioner, who headed the inspection team, had ordered the contractor as well as the promoter to be available for inquiries from the police, district administration and the Mangalore City Corporation.
The outposts will function 24 hours. Since a number of labourers were working on the site, the district administration had asked the Labour Commissioner to have the site checked every day and ensure the safety of the labourers until the retaining wall was built. Headcount of the labourers would be taken twice a day, Dayananda added.
