Panaji, Feb 21: Teachers in Goa can now serve for two more years before their retirement.

Goa cabinet on Tuesday agreed to increase retirement age of all teachers from 58 years to 60 years, stated chief minister Pratapsingh Rane.

The state cabinet, which met this afternoon, decided to increase the age limit. Till now only college and university teachers were superannuating at 60 years of age but now all teachers will get the benefit, chief minister said.

The opposition BJP, however, has condemened this cabinet decision stating that such a step would increase unemployment in the state.

With the retirement age at 58 years every year 250 new posts of teachers were created. The cabinet decision will put halt on creation of posts allowing corruption to usurp in the recruitment process BJP spokesman Laximkant Parsekar said today.

Parsekar, a BJP legislator and a teachers by profession, said that 58 is the correct age for retirement as after that physical capacity to teach in classroom is reduced.
