Bengaluru, Apr 2: Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday underscored the state’s commitment to eliminating crime, drug abuse, and ensuring women's safety while strengthening law enforcement efforts.

Speaking at the Police Flag Day celebrations and CM’s Medal Award Ceremony at the KSRP Parade Ground in Koramangala, he highlighted the need for youth awareness against drug addiction, noting that the police have already educated over a million students on its dangers.

He praised Karnataka's success in rehabilitating Naxalites, making the state Naxal-free, and commended swift police action in high-profile cases, including the Mangaluru bank case and the Davangere robbery.

Parameshwara acknowledged the growing challenge of cybercrime, with Karnataka registering nearly 20,000 cases annually, particularly in Bengaluru due to its IT dominance. He stressed the need for intensified efforts to curb digital crimes.

The Minister reiterated that maintaining peace in Bengaluru was crucial for investment, economic growth, and job creation. He also warned against communal tensions and urged the police to strive to be the most efficient force in the country.

He lauded the launch of the ‘Astram’ application by Bengaluru Traffic Management Centre, which has earned national recognition. He also assured continued modernization and welfare initiatives for the police, including an extended housing scheme, with 60% of construction already completed.

Parameshwara paid tribute to officers who sacrificed their lives in service and assured timely distribution of CM’s medals in the future. Addressing the Waqf Amendment Bill, he stated that the Congress would oppose it due to widespread dissent.

Dismissing speculations about leadership change, he affirmed that CM Siddaramaiah’s visit to Delhi was unrelated to any political shift.
