Vasco, Apr 2: Agitated residents of Mundvel-Vaddem confronted sewerage section assistant engineer Varad Surlakar over the alleged discharge of raw sewage into a nullah near Goa Shipyard Limited. A large crowd gathered at the Vaddem sewage pumping station on Wednesday morning, raising concerns over the foul smell and health hazards caused by the overflow.

Locals accused the PWD of neglecting their repeated complaints and demanded urgent upgrades to the sewage pumping station. Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar assured them of swift action, stating that the PWD, through the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd, is already working on the upgrades.

Surlakar clarified that a power failure at Maimollem on Tuesday night led to the overflow, but assured that corrective measures would be taken to prevent future incidents. He urged residents to cooperate with authorities for a long-term solution.
