BJP MLAs stage walkout

Panaji:The BJP members on Monday afternoon staged awalk out from the state legislative assembly, minutes before Govenor S C Jamir, stood to address the first legislative assembly session, 2006.

"The one who has scent respect for house does not have right to address house. Govenor does not deserve merit from our side as he had dismissed BJP-led government unconstitutionally a year back without waiting for speaker's report,'' leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar said speaking to mediapersons after staging a walk out.

Goa legislative assembly's five-day long session began today.

The walkout was the fallout of BJP legislative wing's decision."Governor Jamir has scent respect to the constitution and had dismissed BJP led government, on February 1, last year,'' Parrikar said. The dismissal had paved way for Pratapsingh Rane government to be installed.

"We did not disrupt the proceedings of the house as we knew that Govenor's address on the first day of session was constitutional requirement. We wanted to honour this requirement hence we walked out silently from the house,'' Parrikar said.

The BJP leaders, however, said that they would continue attending the session during the rest of the period. Various issues including on government's failure on law and order front, would come to the fore during the assembly session.

Panaji: Initial 15 minutes of yoga before the sessions of Parliament or state legislative assembly starts would be very useful, said swami Sri Ramdevji Maharaj.

Maharaj, who is down in Goa to address Yog Vigyan Shibir, felt that yoga has power to solve problem of entire nation. ``Yoga can also curb corruption at all level…. When person is self conscious, he is loyal and trustworthy…,’’ Maharaj said briefing media here.

Though not sharply but mildly criticizing the central government, Maharaj expressed his unhappiness over lethargic attitude adopted by central government towards yoga. ``Yoga should be made compulsory in educational curriculum and also all the institutes, including government establishments, should have mandatory yoga classis,’’ he said.

Continuing his tirade against the MNCs, Ramdevji said that the year 2005 was a year for war against the multinational companies dishing out poison (jehar) in the name of fast food. They were earning money for their own country at our health cost, he said.

Speaking about the inclusion of human bone products in the medicines prescribed by his Patanjali trust, Ramdevji said that the controversy helped him to get noticed all over. ``Many people who were unaware about me started knowing me. Within seven days, 20 crore people read about me,’’ he said.
