Mangalore, Aug 22: St Aloysius PU college students joined together to celebrate the success and to disburse the remaining proceeds of recently held “Exquisite ’13 -entertainment for a cause” on saturday, Aug 17 at the college conference hall.
Exquisite ‘ 13 was a unique program organized by the teenagers, the first ever student initiated program in the history of St. Aloysius PU college. The program had not only mesmerized the crowd with high quality presentation, but also enabled the students to raise a good sum in just a week’s time through some generous donors. A sum of Rs. 1 lac was presented on the day of the show to Jeevdaan.
Out of the remaining proceeds, Rs. 70,000/- was handed over to Samvedana, in aid of the HIV kids, on August 17. The students are now planning a day out with the HIV affected kids to spend some quality time with them. A sum of Rs. 49,000/- is also set aside to buy some goodies to them. So all in all a sum of Rs. 2 lakh 19 thousand was raised through “ Exquiste -13.”
Fr Elvis Lewis, principal, St Aloysius Pre-university College said on the occasion, that when students had approached him, he thought even if they failed to raise a single rupee, he wouldn’t feel bad. He did not want to pour cold water on someone’s initiative and talent. He wanted the students to have some practical knowledge apart from the theory, imparted in the class rooms. But for his surprise, the students not only rendered a high quality program but proved that they could do much higher than his expectation.
The principal congratulated Gavin Rodrigues, Neil Rego, Vaishnavi Pavithran, Andrea Jathanna, Reona Pinto and Vaibahv D’Souza for a splendid job. He also thanked Averyl Rodrigues and Anita Rego, the parents who guided and supported the students in this noble cause.
All the performers and volunteers were awarded with certificates. Rekha Alva, the vice principal, Kiran Shetty, Dr.Pradeep, Alwyn and Dexter, the lecturers who supported the cause were present on the occasion.
