Mangaluru, Dec 27: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) have urged the police department to prohibit New Year celebration programs that they claim are aimed at misleading and harming the youth.
Sharan Pumpwell, the joint secretary of the VHP’s south province, highlighted concerns about the increasing activities of drug mafias in the coastal region. “For years, drugs have been supplied to parties, ruining the lives of many young boys and girls. Despite multiple reports to the district administration, police, and government, these activities persist. In Mangaluru, large-scale drug dealings, allegedly managed by a major racket, are active, with supplies reportedly arriving from Kerala and Goa. Such parties not only involve drug abuse but also attract youth from neighbouring states, leading to moral degradation and harm to local youth,” he stated. He further urged the city police commissioner to deny permissions for New Year parties in public spaces, which he claimed violate the law.
Punit Attavar, divisional coordinator of Bajrang Dal, announced plans to submit appeals to all police stations seeking a ban on such parties. “If no action is taken by the police, Bajrang Dal activists will intervene. The vision of a drugs-free Mangaluru should move beyond rhetoric to action,” he emphasized.
The groups also strongly opposed a programme by international DJ player Sajanka, scheduled for December 27 at City Beech in Bolar. They accused Sajanka of mocking Hindu mantras and shlokas and demanded that his event be cancelled.
