Margao, Jan 20: By using a trick of diverting the owner's attention, an unidentified person is reported to have snatched a bag belonging to Edgar Pereira from a car in Margao on Wednesday. The bag contained Rs 1 lac in cash.
The incident took place in the heart of the city, as Edgar was trying to sit in the car, which he had hired from Ponda city. The stranger who fled with the bag told Edgar a ten-rupee note of his had fallen on the ground.
Believing him, Edgar tried to look for the note and got out of the car. In the meantime, the miscreant picked the bag from the car and ran away. Whe Edgar gave a shout, people gathered around, but the thief could not be caught.
Just for the sake of a ten-rupee note, Edgar lost Rs 1 lac. On a complaint from him, the Margao police are investigating the case.
According to police sources, a gang of pickpockets is operating in the city. The stolen goods soon pass hands so that they cannot be traced.
