Bhatkal, Jan 4: A 19-year-old student drowned at Murdeshwer beach, here, on Wednesday January 2. The boy, who was swimming in the beach with his friends, was swept away by a huge wave.
The deceased has been identified as Kumar Chanrappa, first year BA student of ABN College Davangiree.
It is learnt that on Wednesday morning Kumar along with 12 members went to Murdeshwer beach after visiting Mysore, Dharmastala, Dharward, Honnawar, Udupi.
The body was recovered at around 9.30 am on Thursday morning and taken to Murdeshwar for post-mortem.
Every year nearly 13 to 15 tourists lose their lives at Murdeshwar beach. There are no lifeguards at this beach. This famous tourism spot is visited by more than 2000 people on a daily basis.
A case has been registered in Murdeshwer police station.
