Beijing, Jul 8 (IANS): Eleven of the 16 trapped miners in a flooded coal mine in China were alive three days after the accident, authorities said Sunday.
Medical personnel had gone into the colliery pit in Hunan province carrying stretchers and first-aid material, Xinhua reported.
Forty people were working underground when the pit was flooded Wednesday evening. Twenty-four miners managed to escape, but 16 others were trapped.
The owner of the mine has been arrested.
