Iran denies reports of IRGC casualties in US airstrike on Yemen

Tehran, Apr 6: Iran has dismissed claims that its military personnel were killed in a recent US airstrike on Yemen, labelling the reports as ‘false’ and part of anti-Iran psychological warfare.

The denial came from Iran’s Tasnim news agency, known for its close ties to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), in response to a statement by Yemen’s Minister of Information, Moammar al-Eryani. He had claimed on social media platform X that 70 Houthi fighters including senior commanders and Iranian IRGC experts died in Tuesday’s strike in Al-Fazah, a coastal area near the Red Sea port of Hodeidah.

“The released report about the martyrdom of Iranian forces in Yemen is not correct,” Tasnim reported. “Follow-ups by our reporter confirm that no Iranian has been martyred in Yemen.”

The agency said the claims were aligned with psychological operations aimed at fuelling tensions in West Asia and reiterated Iran’s stance that the Houthi movement is operating independently in its confrontation with the US and Israel.

Meanwhile, at least one person was killed and four others injured in a separate US airstrike on Saturday in Yemen’s northern Saada city, according to medical sources. The strike targeted a solar energy store and a residence in the Hafsin area, sparking fires and ongoing rescue operations by civil defence teams.

The Houthi group also denied US claims that the earlier airstrike had targeted a gathering of its military commanders in Hodeidah.
