Tehran, Apr 5: In a move highlighting the importance of public trust and fiscal responsibility, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has terminated the tenure of his Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs, Shahram Dabiri. The dismissal stems from Dabiri's controversial and lavish trip to the South Pole during the recent Nowruz (Persian New Year) holidays.
President Pezeshkian, in a formal communication to Dabiri, cited a review of the trip's details as the basis for his decision. He emphasized the critical need for government officials to uphold exemplary conduct, particularly in light of the prevailing economic challenges faced by the Iranian populace, as reported by domestic media outlets.

The President articulated that even if personally funded, such extravagant excursions are "indefensible and unjustifiable," contradicting the austere lifestyle expected of those in public service. He further stated, "(Our) longstanding friendship and your valuable contributions at the Vice-Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs do not outweigh the paramount importance of adhering to integrity, fairness, and the commitments made to the people."
Dabiri, a medical doctor, former football administrator, and ex-Chairman of the Tabriz city council, had assumed his position in August of the previous year.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani affirmed the President's resolute stance, stating that his decision "demonstrates his impartiality and unwavering commitment to efficacy, justice, honesty, and the public welfare." This swift action underscores a commitment to accountability and a recognition of the public's expectations for responsible governance.
