Sanaa, Apr 6: At least one person was killed and four others injured after US airstrikes targeted a solar energy store and a house in Yemen’s northern city of Saada, medics confirmed on Saturday.

The casualty count is considered preliminary, with emergency teams still working to put out fires and search for potential victims in the Hafsin area of western Saada, the capital of the Saada province.

This comes amid escalating tensions, with the Houthi group earlier in the day denying US allegations that a recent American strike had targeted its military leaders in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.

According to a statement aired on the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, the cited event was a social Eid gathering, not a military meeting. The group said such celebrations are a common tradition in Yemen during holidays.

On March 15, the US military launched a fresh series of airstrikes across Yemen, aiming to cripple the Houthis’ operational strength. The ongoing campaign over the past two weeks has targeted air defence systems, command centers, and weapons storage facilities in multiple provinces.

The Houthis have vowed to resume attacks on commercial and naval vessels linked to Israel in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, citing Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The group claims these maritime operations are a show of solidarity with Palestinians and an attempt to pressure Israel to end its military campaign in the region.
