Judicial reshuffle: Justice Dharmadhikari proposed for Kerala shift

New Delhi, Apr 7: The Supreme Court's Collegium has advanced a proposal for the relocation of Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari, currently presiding at the Madhya Pradesh High Court, to the Kerala High Court. This directive stems from deliberations conducted by the Collegium across multiple sessions, specifically on March 20th, 24th, and April 3rd, 2025.

A formal announcement, disseminated via the apex court's official portal on Monday, detailed the Collegium's recommendation. The decision aligns with the established Memorandum of Procedure (MoP), which outlines the process for transferring High Court judges. According to the MoP, the Chief Justice of India, in collaboration with the four most senior associate justices of the Supreme Court—collectively known as the Collegium—initiates such transfers.

The procedural framework further mandates that the Chief Justice of India solicit and consider perspectives from the Chief Justices of both the originating and receiving High Courts. Additionally, input from Supreme Court justices with relevant insights is also factored into the decision-making process.

Justice Dharmadhikari, born on July 9, 1966, in Raipur, embarked on his judicial career as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in April 2016. He was subsequently confirmed as a permanent judge on March 17, 2018. Prior to his judicial appointment, he maintained a 24-year legal practice in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, specializing in civil, criminal, and constitutional law.
