Perth, Apr 4: In a significant development for the Big Bash League (BBL), Mitchell Marsh has re-committed to the Perth Scorchers for the next three years, solidifying his legacy as a one-club player.
The Australian T20I captain, who was out of contract last season, was notably absent from the Scorchers’ list of ten pre-signed players prior to the player movement window. This omission fueled speculation about a potential switch to another franchise. However, Marsh’s new deal has now put those rumors to rest.

Marsh and Moises Henriques of the Sydney Sixers remain the only players to have represented their original franchises throughout all 14 editions of the BBL.
At 33 years old, Marsh ranks second on the Scorchers’ all-time list for most runs scored in the BBL, amassing 1,904 runs at an impressive average of 38.08 from 71 matches. With the ball, he has claimed 25 wickets, further showcasing his versatile skill set.
One of his standout performances came against the Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval in December 2021, where he hammered an unbeaten 100 from 60 deliveries—making him one of only four Scorchers to score a BBL century.
Expressing his delight at re-signing with the Scorchers, Marsh said, “I'm really proud to sign on with the Scorchers, a team that I've played with since I was a kid, and a franchise that has looked after me incredibly well. Being a one-club player was a big part of my decision, which was obviously quite an easy decision.”
“I think with the landscape of cricket these days, a lot of us play for a lot of different teams around the world. The idea of always coming home and playing for the Scorchers and hopefully finishing my career as a one-club player will be something I'm really proud of in years to come,” Marsh added.
Marsh also highlighted the camaraderie within the team, citing his friendships with players like Joel Paris, who recently returned to the franchise. “A lot of the guys in this team are not only mates on the field but also some of my best friends in life. Playing alongside your best mates is always a special experience,” he said.
Perth Scorchers general manager of high-performance Cricket and Elite Teams, Kade Harvey, emphasized the significance of retaining Marsh.
“Clearly, signing Mitch was a priority given his calibre as a person and player, so we're excited to have him on board for another three seasons. Mitch has been massive for the fabric of our franchise since its foundation. He offers leadership, experience, and a range of skills on the field that will benefit our side enormously, as well as a genuine hunger for success,” Harvey stated.
The Scorchers will be hoping Marsh’s leadership and experience will guide them to more silverware in the coming seasons.
