Bantwal, Mar 14: The Bolnadu Sri Bhagavathi Temple, located in Vittal, is one of the 18 historically famous Bhagavathi temples of the Tiya community. During the reign of the Vittal Royal family, grand worship and festival activities were held here. This temple, which has a history of around 600 years, is now undergoing a rejuvenation and preparing for the Brahmakalasha Utsava.
The temple, located in the lush green village of Erumbu in Alike, Vittal Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, is unique in that the deity has manifested with divine power and has been worshipped by the community for centuries. This area, known as 'Bolnadu 40 Billi,' is famous for its ancient significance and abundant prosperity.

After being completely destroyed by foreign invasions, the temple was revived with efforts from many prominent figures in the Tiya community. After receiving a divine vision, Krishna N Uchil, a philanthropist from Mumbai, initiated the reconstruction of the temple. He dreamt of the deity and felt a deep connection to the place.
On 20/10/2016, a Gana Homa ceremony was performed, and in the presence of local elders, the foundations for the rejuvenation of the temple were laid, with rituals conducted for deities like Moota Bhagavathi, Eleyya Bhagavathi, Dandaraaja, Ghanthakarna, Vishnumurthy, Dhoomavati, Panjurli, Guliga, and Nagas.
On 16/03/2017, the Bhoomi Puja and Shilanyasa were performed, and now the temple is ready for the Brahmakalasha Utsava, standing as a beautiful and expansive site.
The contributions and leadership of Krishna N Uchil in the rejuvenation process of the Bolnadu temple are significant.
Krishna N Uchil, a well-known businessman from Mumbai, is related to the Korikar family. Many years ago, during a contemplation, it was foreseen that the Bolnadu Bhagavathi temple would be revived by someone associated with an ancient temple. Krishna N Uchil, after receiving a divine vision, was inspired to take action, and under his guidance, the Bolnadu Sri Bhagavathi Temple has undergone significant development.
Upon his arrival from Mumbai, Krishna N Uchil has been bringing Ayurvedic medicines for the ailing and offering them as prasadam at the temple to cure the sick. Many cases of illness have been healed through these offerings.
Six to seven years ago, a family came to the temple with tears in their eyes, searching for their missing son. Krishna N Uchil consoled them, telling them to pray to the goddess. Soon after, they received information about the whereabouts of their son. There are several such instances where people have received relief from physical and mental afflictions through the blessings of Sri Bhagavathi at this temple.
Daily poojas and flower rituals are performed at the temple. Every Tuesday, Bhajana services are held for the deity.
The Relationship Between Vittal Sri Panchalingeshwara and Bolnadu Sri Bhagavathi Temple
Bolnadu Sri Bhagavathi Temple is one of the ancient temples in the Vittal region with a rich historical and mythological background. In the past, during the Bhairani Mahotsava, the custom of Bolnadu Bhagavathi visiting Vittal Sri Panchalingeshwara was practiced. The tradition involved the goddess visiting Sri Panchalingeshwara during the night, with a lighted procession. This tradition will be continued this year, with the goddess visiting Sri Panchalingeshwara on March 25 at 7 PM. For the next three years, the Bolnadu Sri Bhagavathi will meet Sri Panchalingeshwara once every year.
Under the leadership of Krishna N Uchil, the Bolnadu Sri Bhagavathi Tiya Samaja Seva Committee (R) Erumbu and the Samasta Astika Bandhavas will jointly celebrate the Pratishta and Brahmakalasha Utsava from March 9 to 16. The Brahmakalasha will be conducted under the leadership of Brahma Sri Tantrivarya Uliyattaya Vishnu Asra. The Bharaani Mahotsava will be celebrated from March 20 to 27 under the leadership of Kanna Kalekar and Achara Pattavaru.
