Mandya, Mar 14: In a tragic turn of events, a woman in Mandya ended her life in protest against police inaction over her daughter’s suicide. Following public outrage, police have registered an FIR against 19 individuals linked to the case.

Fifty-year-old Laxmi was found dead at her residence on Thursday, having hanged herself after weeks of anguish over the handling of her daughter Vijayalaxmi’s death. Vijayalaxmi, 21, had died by suicide on February 21 by coming under a train in Mandya.

Laxmi and her family had accused a man named Harikrishna of deceiving Vijayalaxmi in the guise of love and later betraying her, which allegedly drove her to take her own life. However, despite filing a complaint at the Mandya Rural police station, Laxmi claimed in a suicide note that no action had been taken against the accused.

In her final words, she expressed frustration over the alleged police support for the accused and the misuse of influence by Harikrishna’s family to evade justice. She also mentioned that when villagers raised their voices against this inaction, the police turned against them instead. Listing the names of those responsible, she pleaded for justice for her daughter.

Laxmi’s death triggered widespread anger in the village, with residents even preventing the police from shifting her body. Under mounting pressure, authorities have now filed an FIR against Harikrishna, his family members, and others implicated in the case. Charges include abetment to suicide, giving false evidence, threatening public servants, and other serious offenses.

Two lives are lost.Whether it may help to find justice?is the question.Police should act without any outside pressure and give justice to opfer .Here it happened nothing .Only when public made noice ,they stepped forward slowly.Mother shouldnt have suicided.Should have fought for justice living.May their soul unite and find peace in Heaven .Hope to hear more about this.

Sad. This women has taken the extreme step unncessarily. When 'love' is not bound by any legal contract, one should be prepared that it could cease at any time by either of the partners. Irony is that if the male ends it, it becomes a big issue. But if the female ends it, its a non-issue!
