New Delhi, Mar 8: Fulfilling a key BJP Assembly election promise, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a new scheme to provide Rs 2,500 in monthly financial assistance to eligible women in the capital.
The decision was finalized in a Cabinet meeting chaired by CM Gupta on Saturday, with the initiative being branded as "Modi ki Guarantee." The scheme is expected to benefit 15-20 lakh women aged 18-60 years, primarily from families earning up to ?3 lakh annually, with a special focus on those Below the Poverty Line (BPL).
Under the eligibility criteria, applicants must have been residents of Delhi for the past five years and possess a bank account linked to Aadhaar. The registration process will be online, with multi-level verification to prevent fraudulent claims, similar to the Union government’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

On Wednesday, CM Gupta held a public discussion at the Delhi Assembly to seek women's opinions on the scheme, alongside issues like security, sanitation, education, and governance. She reaffirmed the BJP government’s commitment to delivering the monthly financial aid and dismissed AAP’s criticism over the scheme’s timeline.
"We will work according to our agenda. They do not need to dictate anything," she asserted after the meeting.
Suggestions from the public dialogue may be incorporated into the Delhi Budget 2025-26, scheduled to be presented from March 24-26. To further engage the public, CM Gupta also launched a WhatsApp number (9999962025) for crowdsourcing ideas, marking a first for a BJP-led Delhi government in 27 years.
Meanwhile, BJP National General Secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam slammed AAP for questioning the BJP's commitment, challenging them to address Arvind Kejriwal’s unfulfilled promise of providing ?1,000 monthly assistance to Punjab women.
With the approval of this scheme, the BJP government in Delhi aims to empower women financially while reinforcing its commitment to inclusive development.
