Mangaluru, Feb 21: Mount Carmel Central School celebrated International Mother Language Day on February 21 with vibrant enthusiasm. Students from grade V to VIII gathered in the school auditorium to honour linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.
The event commenced with a serene prayer service, followed by a classical welcome dance that set an energetic tone. Students Laranya Bishnoi, Srihaan Pai and Shreya Bhat warmly welcomed the attendees and introduced the esteemed guests. The chief guests, Capt Sylvan Pereira and Ma’am Merralyn Pereira were graciously welcomed with a plant sapling by administrator Sr Carissima.



























Highlighting the day's significance, students Austin Joseph D’Mello, Akshaj Dheeraj Shetty and Nigel Valentine D’Souza emphasised the importance of preserving one's mother tongue in the modern world. The cultural segment featured a dynamic dance performance showcasing India's linguistic diversity, followed by a soulful group song underscoring the nation's unity in diversity.
In her address, chief guest Ma’am Merralyn Pereira lauded the efforts of the students of grade V C and V D and their mentors for orchestrating a vibrant programme. She invited a few students to express gratitude to their teachers in their mother languages, highlighting the importance of preserving linguistic heritage. She also addressed the global decline of languages due to neglect, urging proactive measures to safeguard them.
Sr Carissima further emphasised the profound connection between language and the word ‘Amma’, a term symbolising love across many languages. She articulated that language serves not only as a communication tool but also as a medium to convey love and emotions.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Rihan Achal D’Souza and Ayaan Chris D’Souza, expressing gratitude to all contributors. The programme was adeptly hosted by MCs Samrat Santhosh, Rhea Hurtis, Reeva Siona Pais and Vishruth Shivaprasad, who seamlessly guided the proceedings.
Thus, the celebration of International Mother Language Day at Mount Carmel Central School served as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving and cherishing mother languages, fostering a sense of unity and cultural pride among all participants.
