Prayagraj, Feb 4: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for the arrest of Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan over her controversial remarks on dead bodies being dumped in the river following the Maha Kumbh stampede, which claimed over 30 lives.
VHP media in-charge Sharad Sharma accused Bachchan of spreading misinformation and sensationalism. “She should be arrested for making false and untrue statements. Maha Kumbh is a sacred event where faith, devotion, and salvation converge. The sentiments of crores of devotees are attached to this great ritual,” he said.
On Monday, Bachchan alleged that the Kumbh water bodies had become highly contaminated due to bodies being thrown into the river. “Where is the water most polluted right now? It’s in Kumbh. Bodies from the stampede have been dumped in the river, contaminating it,” she claimed.
She further criticized the administration, questioning the treatment of common pilgrims. “The real issues are being ignored. Common devotees are not getting any special treatment, and the claim that crores have visited is exaggerated. How can such a large crowd gather at one place at the same time?”
Several MPs have also slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led government for allegedly prioritizing VIPs over the safety of the general public, linking administrative lapses to the tragic stampede.
