Karkala: Srinivas University NSS unit conducts Aastha community charity programme

Karkala, Oct 29: Srinivas University, Institute of Port, Shipping, and Logistics Management, along with its NSS Unit, conducted the Aastha community charity programme at Hosabelaku Seva Ashram, Bailoor Karkala. This initiative is a part of the university’s ongoing efforts to engage students in meaningful community service while providing support to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, orphans, and individuals in need.

Aastha is a community-driven charity programme designed to instill empathy, social responsibility, and leadership in students by engaging them in activities that positively impact the community.

The programme targets underprivileged sections of society, including those living in orphanages, old age homes, and rehabilitation centres. The visit to Hosabelaku Seva Ashram was part of this larger initiative, where students had the opportunity to connect with elderly residents and contribute to their well-being through material donations, cultural activity and engaging activities.

This programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Sonia Noronha, dean, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management (IPSLM), Prof Nelson Pereira, HOD, BBA Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management (IPSLM) and Prof Sagar Srinivas, HOD, BBA Port, Shipping and Logistics Management, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management (IPSLM).

Overall, Aastha was a heartwarming and impactful. It successfully achieved its objective of bringing happiness to the elderly residents, with 180 inmates participating in the celebrations. The students gained invaluable life lessons from the experience, listening to the inmates' stories and understanding the hardships they had endured. The programme fostered empathy, compassion, and a sense of responsibility among students, who were deeply moved by the experience. Overall, the event strengthened the bond between the university and the community, and Aastha continues to be a platform for creating positive change and enriching both the lives of the participants and the beneficiaries.
