Mangaluru: SJEC concludes '2024 IEEE Discover' in style

Mangaluru, Oct 24: The academic community of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor, Mangaluru came together for a landmark event 2024 IEEE DISCOVER featuring distinguished experts from around the world.

The day-long event, held across various venues in SJEC, was hailed as a resounding success, with participants expressing their enthusiasm for the insightful keynote addresses and thought-provoking paper presentations.

The day began with registration near the Academic Block II, where attendees were greeted warmly, setting a positive tone for the event. A networking breakfast was held at Fr Fred Hall, Academic Block I, where delegates, students and professionals exchanged ideas before the sessions commenced.

The keynote address by Dr C P Ravi Kumar, Texas Instruments was nothing short of inspiring. Dr S K Ramesh, a renowned professor from California State University, opened the morning with his keynote address titled "Engineering the Future: Sustainable Development". His presentation emphasised the role of engineering in tackling global challenges and fostering sustainable development, leaving the audience with a sense of purpose and possibility.

The momentum continued with Anindya Saha from Tejas Networks, who delivered an engaging talk on "Journey from Prototype to Standardisation." His insights into the complex journey of bringing innovations from concept to widely accepted standards captivated the audience, providing a unique blend of technical knowledge and real-world applications.

Following a short tea break, the event moved into specialised paper presentation tracks like Distributed Computing, Healthcare, VLSI, Communication, Electrical & Electronic Circuits and Robotics– ran concurrently, offering a platform for academics and researchers to showcase their work. The papers presented sparked lively discussions and debates, underscoring the event’s role in advancing knowledge and collaboration.

The afternoon session was headlined by Dr S D Madhu Kumar, professor at NIT Calicut, who spoke on "Cyber Security, Cyber Forensics, and the DPDP Act: Strengthening Data Protection in the Digital Age." His keynote was timely, addressing the critical importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world, particularly in light of emerging data protection regulations. The audience left the session with a deeper understanding of the measures needed to safeguard information in the digital age.

The day culminated in a well-attended valedictory ceremony held at the Kalam Auditorium, Academic Block II. Organisers and participants reflected on the event’s success and the tremendous knowledge exchange that took place throughout the day.

The event concluded with a delightful high tea, providing a final opportunity for attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and build lasting professional relationships.

The closing ceremony event witnessed the presence of Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director-SJEC, Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, assistant director, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, Dr S D Madhu Kumar, chief guest, professor –NIT, Calicut, Dr Vasudeva, professor, NMAMIT Nitte, general chair, Dr Sridevi Saralaya, organising chair & HOD, CSE, Dr Hari Vinod N, associate professor, organising chair and others heads of various departments, deans, staff members & students.
