Mangaluru: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School celebrates animal, pet care day

Mangaluru, Jun 30: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School students took part in Animal and Pet Care , a programme organized by the Alumni Association of the school on Saturday, June 29. The event commenced with a prayer song graciously sung by the school choir.

Headmistress Jositta Noronha extended a warm welcome to the members of the Animal Care Trust, who were the esteemed guests for the day. The lighting of the lamp was done by the dignitaries and the representatives of the Eco and Science Club which marked the inauguration of these clubs.

The event was graced by the presence of Fr John D'Souza SJ, the correspondent; headmistress Jositta Noronha and assistant headmaster Liya D'Souza.

Shawn, a dedicated volunteer from the Animal Care Trust, addressed the gathering. He provided insightful information on the operations of the Animal Care Trust, emphasizing the importance of taking care of abandoned animals. Chandrika, another passionate volunteer from the trust, spoke about stray dogs, explaining the necessity of annual vaccinations, deworming every three months and controlling the stray dog population. She also encouraged students to volunteer at their center located in Shakthi Nagar, Mangaluru.

Charles, one of the trustees of the Animal Care Trust, shared the history of the care center, which was established in 2000. He captivated the audience with video clippings on venomous and non-venomous snakes and taught students how to administer first aid for snake bites through a video presentation.

The highlight of the event was when the trust members brought puppies and guinea pigs for the students to interact with. The children were thrilled to touch and feel the animals, creating a memorable experience for them.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by alumnus Daniel Tauro. Other alumni members present included Neil Rodrigues, Bradley Noronha, Neil Rasquinha and Madhukar S M.

The Animal and Pet Care awareness session fostered compassion among students towards animal welfare.
