Mangaluru, Jun 24: St Aloysius PU College recognizes the pivotal role that clubs and associations play in fostering both personal and professional growth. These organizations are instrumental in unveiling students' creativity and talents, providing a dynamic platform for them to fully harness their potential. By participating in a variety of clubs and associations, students can explore different avenues and transform into confident, well-rounded individuals. To provide ample opportunities for skill enhancement, the college officially inaugurated 37 clubs and associations.
The programme commenced with a soulful rendition of a prayer song by the college choir, followed by a captivating classical welcome dance and the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, the Principal, began his address with a tale of an ancient gold statue of Buddha concealed under a layer of clay, illustrating how individuals often harbour hidden talents that need to be uncovered to realize their full potential. He further exemplified this with the story of the bumblebee, the largest of all bees, which defies aerodynamic principles yet flies due to its belief in its abilities. This analogy underscored the power of mindset in accomplishing tasks, emphasizing that thoughts shape actions. The principal stressed the importance of cultivating a resilient mindset, citing an anecdote of a boy effortlessly carrying a heavy man, highlighting the influence of perception on capability.
In addition to excelling in academics, the principal emphasized the significance of participating in extracurricular activities. He encouraged students to embrace challenges and engage actively in clubs and associations, regardless of the outcome. He stressed that believing in one's abilities is paramount; those who believe they can achieve success often do, while skeptics may struggle to realize their potential. Furthermore, he reassured students that setbacks should not be feared, as every experience contributes to personal growth and learning. According to him, there is no such thing as failure; only opportunities to learn and improve.
The dignitaries inaugurated the ceremony by unveiling an electric model of an oyster, symbolizing the concept of students remaining open to abundant opportunities that come their way, much like pearls within an oyster shell. As a token of appreciation, certificates and mementos were awarded to students for their efforts in creating a beautiful event invitation and the impressive inauguration model.
The cultural programme featured a drama introducing students to the diverse clubs and associations of the college, showcasing the vibrant and dynamic community at SAPUC. This was followed by a dazzling Bollywood dance performance and a band performance, displaying a collection of musical and dance talents, thereby highlighting the emphasis on holistic development.
Campus minister, Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, vice principal-commerce & arts, Vilma Fernandes; dean-science, Kiran Shetty; and the coordinators Aleen Crasta, Shravya Shetty, Vinitha D’Silva, and Chaithra Bhaktha were present. Bianca Bambina D’Souza, a student from the II PU science batch, compered the programme.
