Mangaluru, Jun 4: The inaugural assembly for the new academic year 2024-25 was held on June 3 in the school auditorium.
The event marked a fresh beginning with a serene and symbolic lamp lighting ceremony. Sr Lilly Pushpa, the principal, Dr Sr Prem D'Souza, the administrator, Sr Premal, the vice principal, along with staff coordinators and student representatives from each class, illuminated the ceremonial lamp. This act of lighting the lamp symbolized the dispelling of ignorance through the light of knowledge, setting a hopeful and inspiring tone for the year ahead. The sight of students and educators gathered reflected the unity and collective spirit of the school community, promising a year filled with growth and learning.
Following the lamp lighting, a prayer service led by the subject teachers took place. The inspiring introduction highlighted the significance of the gathering as a moment to seek blessings and guidance of the Omnipresent and Omnipotent God. It reminded everyone that the teachers are not just instructors but guides and mentors who will support students on their path of learning and growth and underlined the meaning of turning to faith for strength and inspiration, urging the community to ground themselves in shared values as they begin the new academic year. A touching and imaginative segment titled "The Autobiography of a Coconut,” was presented by teachers personifying a coconut, which narrated an adventurous tale starting from high up in the tropical palms to becoming a useful container. The creative presentation underscored the theme of embracing change and finding value in every phase of life. The assembly also included scripture readings, prayers of gratitude for love, joy, patience, kindness, and peace were offered, asking for God's wisdom and direction. A touching tribute was paid to Anita, a beloved non-teaching staff member who recently passed away. Deepthi's words resonated with the assembly, celebrating Anita's life and dedication.
The assembly continued with a warm and creative welcome to the Carmel family through an enchanting role play featuring flowers, where each letter of the word 'WELCOME' was attributed to the unique qualities of various blossoms. This colourful presentation set a joyful tone as the new faculty members were honoured by the principal and introduced by teacher Sharada. It was a delightful moment for students and staff alike to meet and get acquainted with the new teachers, fostering a sense of community and excitement for the upcoming academic year.
Sr Lilly Pushpa, the principal, captivated the audience with her inaugural address, beginning with the profound question, "What is life?" Enthusiastic students from every class offered inspirational answers, which she wove into a narrative about Arav, a boy who finds a book on 'Time Travel.' Arav's journey through the realms of science, math, literature, and history illustrated the interconnectedness of these subjects: science as explanation, language as expression, math as structure and history as the story. The principal then urged students to nurture curiosity and ask probing questions, likening Carmel to a magical book and teachers to its wise guides. She inspired the students to create a vibrant school environment by embracing opportunities, participating actively in both academics and co-curricular activities, exploring new interests, supporting one another, celebrating each other's successes, and learning from each other's experiences. Her address was both introspective and thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
