Mangaluru, Apr 23: The women's football team of Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar, made history by claiming their third consecutive championship title at the Mangalore University Intercollegiate Football Tournament. The thrilling final match, held at Alva's College Moodbidri, showcased the team's determination and skill as they emerged victorious in a nail-biting penalty shootout against Alva's College.
In the semifinals, Sacred Heart displayed their prowess by defeating SDM Ujire with a commanding scoreline of 3-0, securing their spot in the championship clash. The final match against Alva's College saw both teams locked in a tense battle, resulting in a 1-1 draw at full time. However, Sacred Heart's resilience shone through as they clinched the title in the penalty shootout with a score of 5-4.
Aryasree, a standout player from Sacred Heart, was honored with the title of Best Striker of the tournament for her remarkable performance, having scored 4 crucial goals throughout the tournament. Additionally, Thripthi Shetty's exceptional skills and contributions earned her the prestigious Best Player of the Tournament award.
The tournament, organized by Alva's College Moodbidri, witnessed spirited competition among participating teams, highlighting the growing enthusiasm and talent in women's football within the region.
