Udupi, Feb 15: “Fishing Boats should use electric engines and try to avoid diesel and other petroleum engines for betterment of the environment according to the central government,” said MLA Yashpal Suvarna to the fishermen of the coastal in an information programme to the fishermen.
The government will help and encourage the fishermen to use the electric engine instead of the diesel or other petroleum used engines. The government will give more information on the uses of electric engines and the technologies. Representatives from private companies explained how to use these engines and also explained the advantages of these technologies.
Jaya C Kotian, president of coastal fishermen, Dayananda Suvarna, president of Malpe Fishermen association, Dinesh Kallera, director of department of fishermen and leaders of various groups were present.
