Mangaluru: Manipal School, Sportz Village jointly hosted ‘Kidathon’

Mangaluru, Jan 24: Manipal School, Mangaluru in association with Sportz Village, hosted ‘Kidathon - Run to reduce digital addiction', at Marena sports ground in Attavar on January 20. In a remarkable display of commitment to a healthier lifestyle, Kidathon attracted over 160 enthusiastic students from various parts of the city who were divided into two age categories, 3 to 5 years and 6 to 8 years. 

Recognizing the growing concern of digital addiction among children, Manipal School consciously chose the theme ‘Run to reduce digital addiction’ for Kidathon. The event aimed to advocate for a shift towards physical activity as a wholesome alternative to prolonged digital engagement.

 

Kidathon commenced with a prayer led by the junior school students of Manipal school which was followed by a warm welcome from Sapna Shetty, the foundation-level coordinator. The principal Anuradha Shivaram graced the occasion, adding her support to the cause. 

The chief guest of the event, Keya Ashutosh Boloor, an alumna of Manipal School, set the tone for the Kidathon event by releasing balloons, symbolizing the importance of letting go of digital distractions. In her address, she highlighted the urgency of addressing digital addiction among children and commended the organizers for using a marathon to promote a balanced and active lifestyle. Keya was honoured with a memorable memento during the event – a stunning artwork by Payal, a talented grade 7 student of Manipal school. The artwork featured a sailfish, symbolizing speed and agility. 

A warm-up session was conducted by the team from Sportz Village ensuring that the young participants were physically prepared for the run. The race kicked off energetically after the warm-up session, with participants showcasing enthusiasm and determination. Young runners from various age groups sprinted, jogged and cheered their way showcasing the spirit of a healthier and more active lifestyle. winners in both age categories were recognised with participants securing 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. 

In the 3 to 5 years’ category, the winners are 1-Alhan Fahad, 2-Hamdan Abdulla and 3-Mohammad Arsh. Similarly, in the 6 to 8 years’ category, the winners are 1- Rajdeep Singh Rao, 2- Nihal Suhail and 3- Mohammed Aaz. Additionally, all participants who completed the race were awarded finisher medals, emphasizing the inclusive and celebratory nature of the Kidathon. 

Adding to the vibrancy of the Kidathon event, an additional highlight was the presence of the mascot, Inspector Gadget. The energetic and friendly inspector gadget engaged with participants and spectators alike, adding an element of fun and excitement to the occasion. Further adding to the festive spirit, grade 4 students from Manipal School performed a cheer dance, while a vibrant face painting station contributed to the overall celebratory atmosphere. 

Deepa Vinod, the junior school coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. Sonia Dinesh and Meghana Vasani compered the programme. Rakshitha Kishan, the event coordinator ensured the smooth conduct of the programme. 

“The event was one of a kind. Something out of the blue for children. One of the best ways to keep them engaged. It was refreshing and the kids enjoyed a lot,” said Anup Hejmady, parent of Sholka Hejmady and Arohi Hejmady.

“Honestly, my joy had no boundaries. It was super awesome to witness the little ones on ground early in the morning. The warm up was the cutest. Greatly organised by Manipal school, flawless and upto the mark,” said Fathima, parent of Adam Abdulla and Rehan Abdulla.

“Great event. A very good initiative, it really helped kids socialize. Looking forward to more such events,” said Reema Crasta, parent of Darwin D’Mello and Ayden D’Mello.
