Mangaluru, Jan 13: In a commendable effort towards promoting road safety and raising awareness among the community, the Department of Mechanical and Marine Engineering Student Association (ASMA and AIMES) at Srinivas Institute of Technology organised a rally in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit. This initiative took place on January 12 at Valachil Padav.
The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and distinguished guests who gathered to advocate for safer roads and responsible driving habits.
Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology, addressing the assembled crowd, emphasized the paramount importance of road safety. He highlighted the need for collective responsibility in creating a safer environment for all road users.
Prof Rakesh Mallya, NSS coordinator in his address, underscored the significance of the awareness week and the pivotal role it plays in fostering a culture of road safety. Guiding the students during the rally were Dr Shankar K S, head of mechanical engineering, and Dr Lokesh V, head of marine engineering.
Their insights and guidance added a practical dimension to the theoretical knowledge imparted in classrooms. The Association Faculty Advisors, Prof Sathya Prakash, and Prof Suni Prakash played instrumental roles in coordinating the program seamlessly. Their dedication and coordination ensured the success of the event.
Dr Anant Kumar Kulkarni, the student welfare officer, along with Prof Goureeesh Hegde and Prof Gowspeer, lent their support to the cause by actively participating in the rally. Their presence underscored the collective commitment of the academic community towards fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding road safety.
The rally, organized on the occasion of National Youth Day, served as a powerful platform to disseminate crucial information about road safety. The participants, donned in vibrant colours, marched through Valachil Padav, carrying banners and placards with messages promoting safe driving habits.
