Mangaluru, Dec 18: Amidst a vibrant ambience of zeal and exhilaration, the St Agnes School CBSE's Annual Sports Day sprung to life on December 14, at Mangala Stadium. The awe-inspiring display of athleticism and skill showcased by the students kindled the spirits of sportsmanship, perseverance, and commitment. The event's triumph echoed in the hearts of the audience, leaving an unforgettable imprint of inspiration.
Amidst a flurry of anticipation, the grand sports meet commenced with guard of honour. The president of the programme, Dr Sr Maria Roopa A C, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions, Chief guest Venezia Carlo, an international powerlifter of great renown, and Dr Kumar Naik, vice president of PTA, were among the dignitaries present. Sr Maria Sarika A C, the principal, Sr Lenita Lobo A.C., the vice principal, Sr Edna Furtado A C, the administrator, and Sr Sweedal Fernandes A.C., were also present. Their arrival was heralded by the rousing melodies of the school band. As the Squad troops stood poised, ready to showcase their marching skills, they moved in unison to welcome the esteemed guests, who graced them with a salute.
The ceremony unfurled in a grandiose symphony of devotion and artistry. A chorus of enchanting voices called upon the divine, while graceful dancers welcomed the honoured guests. The radiant glow of torches illuminated the arena, as each troop pledged their allegiance. The sports minister, Sweedal Rebello, led the charge, while Dr Sr Maria Roopa A.C. declared the commencement of the sporting extravaganza. The young scholars, from grades I to VI, unfurled a breath-taking display of drill, weaving in elements of nature, stars, flowers, smilies and creative props like chairs, umbrellas, and sarees. Each grade wove their own tapestry of creativity and skill, leaving the audience spellbound and erupting in applause.
The chief guest Venezia Carlo extended felicitations to all in attendance. With a radiant spirit, she implored the students to partake in diverse sports, while urging the parents to continue inspiring their wards toward greatness.
Amidst the fervent cheers of the crowd, students took part in a plethora of track events, each a test of strength, agility, and fortitude. The events ranged from the mighty shot put to the graceful high jump, from the distance-defying long jump to the precise ball throw, from the enduring 1-minute walk race to defying standing broad jump. Each participant, a beacon of inspiration, showcased their remarkable skills, leaving onlookers awestruck. The champions, who surpassed all, were adorned with medals and certificates, a testament to their extraordinary feats. This spectacle was a celebration of the indomitable spirit of these students.
Under the gracious stewardship of Adline Dsilva and Cheryl Sarah Pinto, a grand event unfolded. Sr Edna Furtado A.C., the administrator, extended a warm welcome to all in attendance, while teacher Vani expressed her gratitude for the splendid participation that led to the success of the inaugural festivities. The judges for the March past, including the illustrious Mr Narayan Sherigar, the Physical Education Trainer of St Agnes Special School, the accomplished Mrs Vasudha S, the Physical Director of St Agnes College, and the esteemed Mrs Vinitha Praveen, the Physical Education trainer of St Mary's English Primary School, were also honoured at this momentous occasion.
Valedictory ceremony was graced by Pradeep Dsouza, joint director of the Planning and Statistics Department, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore. The air was alive with the rhythm of the school band as he was accompanied by the venerable Principal Sr Maria Sarika A.C., vice principal Sr Lenita Lobo A.C., PTA vice president Kumar Naik, and Sr Sweedal Fernandes A.C. A mesmerizing invocation dance summoned the blessings of the divine, setting a magical tone for the day's proceedings.
The celebration began with a welcoming dance, followed by the lowering of the school flag, handed over to the school principal, and the lighting of the flame, signifying the conclusion of the sports day festivities. The atmosphere was brimming with jubilation and revelry with distinguished guests adding to the enchantment of the occasion.
Pradeep Dsouza, the chief guest, humbly extended his gratitude for the invitation. In his mystical wisdom, he summoned forth the spirits of athleticism, urging the young minds to traverse the paths of sportsmanship. The chief guest, with his enigmatic voice, hailed the school for the grandeur of the sports meet, a wondrous canvas for the students to paint their talents upon.
The champions, both individual and group, along with the victors of the March past, were bestowed with honours befitting their prowess. The magical evening was hosted by Mahima Salian and Haleema Riza, who wove their words into a tapestry of wonder. The vice principal, Sr Lenita Lobo, welcomed the gathering with a smile as radiant as the sun, while teacher Wilma Anitha, with her words, expressed gratitude to all for their presence and untiring support in making this event a success. As the notes of the National Anthem echoed, the curtains closed on a spectacular sports meet.
