Mangaluru: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School holds annual sports meet

Mangaluru, Nov 27: In a spectacular display of athleticism and school spirit, St Aloysius College Higher Primary School celebrated the inauguration of its much anticipated Annual Sports Meet. The assembly of dedicated athletes, adorned in their vibrant team colors, set the stage for a day filled with friendly competition.

The event commenced with the arrival of the esteemed chief guest Dr Nihal Dalkaje an alumnus of the school, whose presence added a touch of prestige to the occasion. He was welcomed by the Rector Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, School Correspondent Fr John D'Souza SJ, headmistress Jositta Noronha, PTA vice president Victor Serrao, SPL Ayush Shetty and ASPL Joylan D'Costa. As the school band played a resonant general salute, the chief guest was led to the podium with march past by the scouts of the school.  

 

The athletes, representing their respective houses, marched past with pride, showcasing discipline and camaderie. The unfurling of the school flag during the flag hoisting ceremony symbolized the official commencement of the sports meet, marking a beginning of a day that promised spirited contests and remarkable performances. Subsequently, the chief guest of the function and other Dignitaries were led to the Main Stage. A moment of reflection followed as the school community gathered for a prayer song seeking blessing for successful and harmonious event. The headmistress of the school Jositta Noronha then extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasizing the significance of sportsmanship and fair play. The arrival of the torch carried with great reverence by winners of competitions at different levels, added a touch to the proceedings.

The chief guest on receiving the torch, addressed the students. Through a stirring speech, he officially declared the sports meet open, inspiring the athletes to give their best and uphold the spirit of healthy competition. Fr Melwin Pinto SJ bestowed his blessings upon the participants, emphasizing perseverance and team work. The solemn oath taking ceremony led by sports leader Shlok reinforced the commitment of the athletes to uphold the principles of fair play and integrity. A vote of thanks by Veena Menezes expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the event a reality from organisers to participants, highlighting the collaborative effort that went into orchestrating such a grand spectacle. Adding a touch of innocence and charm, kindergarten kids and students of class III, stole the show with an adorable display, capturing the hearts of the audience. With formalities concluded, the much anticipated sports events kicked off, promising a day of intense competition, cheers and celebration. The annual sports meet at St Aloysius College Higher Primary School had officially begun, leaving everyone eager to witness the talent and sportsmanship that would unfold throughout the day.

The valedictory ceremony of the sports meet was held later in the day. 

The chief guest of the ceremony Dr Madhukar S M, an alumnus of the school was accorded a warm welcome by the School Band, acçompanied by correspondent Fr John D'Souza SJ, headmistress Jositta Noronha, PTA vice president Victor Serrao SPL Ayush Shetty and ASPL Joylan D'Costa.

A soothing prayer song sung by the students filled the air with calmness.

The chief guest next addressed the gathering. He called upon the students never to quit but to strive towards excellence. Winning and losing are like two sides of the coin, it is more important to participate in sports.

During the prize distribution ceremony that followed, winners of relay and individual championship were felicitated with awards and certificates.

The group championship was bagged by Red House who secured highest points and were declared winners.

Mass drill was performed by the students from class V to VII.

The ceremonial lowering of the school flag was done with great reverence and the flag was handed over to the headmistress Jositta Noronha.

The function concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
