Mangaluru: St Aloysius Gonzaga School organizes annual sports day

Mangaluru, Nov 21: St Aloysius Gonzaga School organized annual sports day at the Mangala Stadium for classes six to twelfth on November 17.

Flarvisha Velisha Monteiro, a distinguished national athlete, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Addressing the students she said, "The path to success is not always being first. Sometimes we end up being second or third and sometimes we fail to perform. When we fail, we learn to perform better.”

The president of the programme, Fr Vishwas Misquith SJ, secretary, and treasurer of the Mangaluru Jesuit Educational Society said, “Regardless of the outcome you will be a winner if you take the courage to step onto the field’. The principal Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ welcomed the gathering. Fr John D’Souza SJ, director, St Aloysius ITI Institutions, was the chief guest of the valedictory programme. In his address, he emphasized the need for students to inculcate a disciplined life, to achieve a lot. A diverse array of track and field events were conducted. Blue house emerged as the winner for the ‘Overall Championship,’ and yellow house as the ‘Runner Up’ for the annual sports day. Physical education teachers, Agnes Saldanha, and Vinod M P were the conveners of the event.

On November 20, the annual sports day of classes one to five was held in Pathala ground. The chief guest Sonith Mendon, athletic coach and fitness consultant gave a call to students have a goal, choose the right path in life, never give up till the goal is accomplished. Principal, Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ encouraged the students to celebrate fitness, stamina, sportsmanship and team spirit. The students participated in all sports and games events with enthusiasm. Winners were awarded with certificates and medals.
