Mangaluru, Feb 8: Lamp Lighting and oath taking ceremony for the 20th batch of GNM and 19th Batch of B.Sc. Nursing Students of Athena Institute of Health Sciences was held on February 7 at 10.30am in the college auditorium.
Programme was presided over by R S Shettian, chairman Athena Institute of Health Sciences and Sr Annrose D’Almeida , former principal Athena Institute of Health Sciences was the chief guest. Asha Shettian secretary , Dr Ashith Shettian trustee, Sr Deepa Peter principal, Athena Institute Of Health Sciences and Sr Aileen Mathias vice principal and Athena Institute Of Health Sciences and Dr Nandini, principal of Allied Health Sciences shared the dias.
Genevive Serrao , hod of Fundamentals of Nursing Department welcomed the gathering.
The dignitaries on the dais lighted the Indian lamp and officially inaugurated the programme.
The chief guest Sr Annrose D’Almeida lighted the lamp for Florence Nightingale and garlanded the portrait significance of the day was highlighted by Sr Aileen Mathias.
Total 140 students were introduced to nursing profession through lighting the lamps and taking the oath. Principal Sr Deepa Peter administered the oath.
The chief guest stressed on value of nursing profession and qualities of nurse. She emphasized on to handle delicate life with delicate hands. Students should learn the skills by practice and stressed on importance of daily prayer in day to day life, which helps to give better care for the patients. R S Shettian chairman of Athena Institute of Health Sciences in his presidential address reminded the nurses role in restoring patient’s health and dedication in service. He stressed that nurses are the back bone of health profession and they should be well equipped with knowledge and skill, according to the changing scenarios.
Prashwin D’Mello, assistant lecturer and co-ordinator of GNM batch of community health Nursing Department proposed the vote of thanks.
