Mangaluru, Jun 25: The students of MA Journalism And Mass Communication (MAJMC), St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in association with non-government organization TELOCA Addiction recovery centre and Sharada Pu College, Mangaluru has organized a social event. ‘Breaking the bad’, a drug awareness session , which was conducted by Dr Shrinivas Bhatt U. The session was held on June 24 at 6:00 pm at Sharada Pu College auditorium, Mangaluru. Dr Shrinivas Bhatt U, Prakash Nayak, Dayanand Kateel, and Fr Cyril D’Souza, were the dignitaries.
'Breaking the bad’,is a a drug awareness programme organised for young students, with a motive to educate the young students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and alcoholism. Dr Shrinivas Bhatt led the session, where he spoke about the dreadfull effects of substance abuse in our society and how it kills one' life. He also shared his experiences of dealing with several drug addiction cases. He is the professor and the head of department of Psychiatry at K S Hegde hospital, Derlakatte, Mangaluru.
A total of 113 students including girls and boys were part of the session, which was followed by an interactive forum, enabling the students to clarify their doubts related to the topic. Prakash Nayak, vice principal Sharada vidhyalaya PU college and Fr Cyril D'Souza, representative of Teloca recovery center, also addressed the gathering.
TELOCA -An acronym for 'Tender Loving Care' is a public charitable Trust and a well appointed addiction recovery centre at Ullal, Mangaluru. The main objective of the Trust is to provide support in the recovery of people suffering from dreaded disease of alcoholism,to spread awareness about it, to support the family members of alcohol dependence and to organize programmes and activities for the prevention of the substance abused.
