Jammu, Apr 28: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, addressing a special session of the Assembly convened to condemn the recent Pahalgam terror attack, emphasized the unprecedented unity displayed by the nation in the face of this tragedy. He asserted that this collective resolve is crucial for eradicating militancy and terrorism.
"The entire nation, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, stands united in condemning this attack, though sadly, such incidents are not new," CM Abdullah stated. He expressed the profound grief and responsibility he felt as the region's host, lamenting the inability to ensure the tourists' safe return. "What words can console children who lost their fathers, or a newlywed widow?" he questioned, highlighting the attack's devastating human cost.

Abdullah stressed the spontaneous outpouring of public sentiment against the violence. "For the first time in 26 years, I witnessed people taking to the streets, from Kathua to Kupwara, without any instigation. This organic display of solidarity marks a turning point," he declared.
He underscored the pivotal role of public support in combating terrorism. "Militancy can be suppressed with force, but genuine eradication requires the people's cooperation. Today, we have that support, and we must nurture it," he urged. He also mentioned that two minutes of silence were observed in Masjids, highlighting how widespread the condemnation was.
The Chief Minister paid tribute to Syed Adil Hussain, a local Ponywallah who bravely confronted the terrorists and lost his life while protecting tourists. "Adil's selfless act, along with the countless acts of kindness from local residents – from Ponywallahs to taxi drivers and hoteliers – exemplifies the true 'Mehmannawazi' (hospitality) of Kashmir," he stated.
Addressing the reported harassment of Kashmiri youths outside the state, CM Abdullah thanked the respective state governments for their prompt action. "We appreciate their swift response in ensuring the safety of our students in places like Dehradun, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Shimla," he said.
He clarified that while law and order is not directly under the elected government's purview, he would not exploit the tragedy for political gain. "I refuse to politicize the deaths of these 26 individuals," he affirmed.
Following the discussion, the Assembly was set to pass a resolution condemning the Pahalgam terror attack.
